Having the right power supply is essential for the correct operation of all our equipment. It has the function of feeding all the hardware and if we suffer a failure in this piece we can find ourselves in serious problems. On more than one occasion we have found equipment with an insufficient power supply that has failed and has ruined almost the entire system.

The first and essential thing is to take into account the power of the power supply and its real capacity, its amperage and efficiency and of course the connectors. All these aspects must match the needs of the components that we are going to mount in our equipment to avoid getting an underpowered or overpowered power supply. We must keep in mind that the balance between all the components is the ideal when assembling a PC.

The keys to choosing your perfect power supply

If we mount a power supply that does not fit with the configuration of the rest of the components we can encounter several problems, among them, the most common are excessive noise with performance jerks and frequent losses. We can also suffer system shutdowns or reboots for no apparent reason and poor performance in programs or games that should not happen due to the configuration of the equipment. If we are suffering from any of these problems it is likely that the origin is our power supply.

The essential thing to consider is power, amperage and efficiency. Power is measured in watts and is the main data we will follow when choosing our power supply but we must accompany this data with the amperage needed by our graphics card. We must always take into account both characteristics when we decide to assemble a computer because we could look only at the power and the amperage is not enough for our graphics so we would be forcing the team and could come to occur any incident.

The last aspect that remains to be discussed is efficiency. In relation to power supplies, it refers to the percentage of electrical energy that remains once the energy leakage has occurred due to the operation of the component itself. To check the efficiency of the models, the 80 Plus certifications are used, ranging from the standard 80 Plus with 80% efficiency through bronze, silver, gold, platinum to titanium with 90% efficiency. This directly influences the final power we get, for example if we have a 650w Plus Gold unit we would have to subtract the percentage to get our real power. If we invest a little more to acquire a power supply with a higher percentage of efficiency we can reduce the power consumption of our homes.

Luxury details in our power supplies

Our range of Sagitta power supplies features active power factor control (PFC). This type of technology works by adjusting the voltage peaks produced by the electrical current entering the power supply so that the components of your equipment do not suffer these surges and avoid possible breakage.

The latest model of power supplies that we have added to the family Nfortec are the Sagitta RGB 80 Plus Gold, a range of PSUs ranging from 650w to 1050w through 750w and 850w models. In addition, it incorporates a 140mm fan with backlight to synchronize each of your components and create unique configurations. On the other hand, if you are not a big fan of RGB there is no need to worry, Sagitta incorporates a button from which to turn off the lighting.

    Beyond power

Another aspect to take into account is the noise that the power supplies can generate, if we adjust the power to the needs of our computer the fan will always be at maximum power to cool at all times. This will cause the noise to be higher. It is important to take this into account and purchase a power supply with sufficient power and a fan with reduced sound. All of our Sagitta units incorporate a 140mm fan with this technology, keeping the noise below 45db.

If we are in very hot areas our power supply will increase its consumption because its efficiency will be reduced by the high temperatures and we will not get the result we should have. The same can happen if we have our tower placed against a wall or against the corner of our room. If we do not leave space for the air flow to pass our components will suffer a higher heating and we will be forcing them to work at higher revolutions than the indicated ones.
